P.R.No:594- Avoidance and Awareness on the Use of Single-Use Plastic Items During Ayudha Pooja and Saraswathi Pooja Festivals

Since 01.01.2019, the Government of Tamil Nadu has issued an order banning single-use plastic items, which are used once and then discarded. Continuous inspections and monitoring activities have been carried out by local bodies and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) to enforce this ban.

Therefore, the District Collector, Mrs. Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, I.A.S., has informed us that the public is advised not to use banned single-use plastic items, and merchants/traders are instructed not to sell them. Instead, only environmentally friendly alternatives recommended by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board should be used and sold.(PDF 43KB)
