P.R.No:631- African Swine Fever in Nilgiris District

African Swine Fever (ASF) has been confirmed in the Nilgiris district. Therefore, pig farmers and those who rear pigs on farms are requested to exercise extreme caution. Since this disease spreads only among pigs, other livestock farmers need not be worried.

Furthermore, this disease is not transmissible to humans. Pig farmers and farm owners are advised to educate themselves about the disease and the preventive measures to be taken during this period by consulting nearby veterinary pharmacies. They can also contact the Deputy Director of the Nilgiris District Animal Husbandry Department for more information.
