P.R.No:752- MANJAPPAI AWARD 2025-2026

In order to take forward the “Meendum Manjappai” campaign, the Hon’ble Minister for Environment and Climate Change made an announcement on the floor of the Legislative Assembly for the financial year 2022-23 about, among other things, the Manjappai Awards. It will be given to the best 3 schools, 3 colleges, and 3 commercial establishments that effectively implement the ban on SUPs and make their campus free of plastic and encourage the use of alternatives to Single-Use Plastic (SUP) carry bags and other banned SUPs and revive the use of traditional eco-friendly alternatives, such as the Manjappai (Yellow Cloth Bag), and make their campus plastic-free. The first prize will carry a sum of Rs. 10 lakhs, the second prize will be Rs. 5 lakhs, and Rs. 3 lakhs will be issued as the third prize.

In accordance with the said announcement Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) proposes to honor Manjappai Awards to Schools/Colleges/ Commercial Establishments who have made exemplary contribution towards encouraging use of alternatives to Single Use Plastics and implementation of ban through creative initiatives within and outside the campuses/ premises and make the premises plastic free.
